Ballet
Ballet is the foundation from which all forms of dance originate. Each ballet class consists entirely of technique and is partitioned into barre work, port de bras, center barre, adagio, and allegro. Children spend a portion of each class at the barre in order to acquire the strength, balance, and placement necessary to execute center work correctly.
Jazz
Jazz can be expressed in many forms from all eras, it originated from the African dance styles. Its emphasis is on rhythm and technique. Jazz is an exciting and ever evolving dance form full of rhythm, syncopation, passion and life. Steeped in the rhythm of jazz music, an inspiring art form, jazz dance brings energy to all those who dance it. Classes explore body isolations of the head, shoulders, ribcage, feet and arms and encourage individual expression and the development of personal style. Ever evolving, jazz dance is taught with the music of today together with the classical jazz of yesterday and encompases stretch, strength and control as well as leaps, turns and jumps.
Tap
Tap is rooted in African American history and has its own techniques and steps to learn. It's an exciting rhythmic dance and is not only enjoyable to watch but to hear as well.Tap uses a wide variety of footwork and skills to produce rhythm and sound. The mind and body connection happens while students simultaneously learn the basics of tap and more intricate footwork. Tap teaches concentration through counting and listening. This study allows one's ability to move quickly and easily while mastering steps such as shuffles, flaps, and spanks. Tap offers a variety of styles while using different patterns, rhythms, and beats.
Lyrical Jazz
Lyrical is a contemporary dance form that has its roots in Jazz. The movement vocabulary and range of motion used is endless and creative and draws on each student's personal expression. Classes may include improvisation and creative exercises. This hour focuses on teaching dancers about creative expression. Our teachers achieve this by instructing students to tell the story of a piece of music through their movements. EDC recommends this class be taken in conjunction with a Ballet and Jazz class.
Hip Hip
Hip Hop features many forms and challenges dancers to find their own groove! Hip Hop has many individualized styles and new moves are continuously being invented by creative and innovative visionaries who mix the Old School Styles with current trends. Hip hop is a high energy, engaging class using dance and fitness. This class incorporates skills from jazz funk, breakdancing, and street dance. This involves level changes including freezes, isolations, and across the floor movements. The popularity of hip hop has evolved over the years and has continued to grow, encouraging dancers of all genres to become involved.
Acrobatics
Acro Dance is a style of dance that combines dance technique with precise acrobatic elements. Properly achieved acrobatic skills can be added to a multitude of dance genres. Acro dance is meant to be softer than gymnastics with the emphasis on lengthening, control and balance. New England Dance Academy is a Country leader in acrobatics! We have students who have gone on to professional acrobatic careers and Division 1 college scholarships.
Contemporary
Dancers will focus on musicality and rhythm and will be challenged to bring emotion and individuality to this form of dance. Contemporary combines an eclectic yet accessible mix of Modern, Lyrical and Jazz. Your signature exercises develop posture, the dancer’s line, articulation and coordination with a strong focus on imagery and dynamics. Original choreography will assist the dancer in realizing the potential of these techniques in motion. This class is challenging with an emphasis on expression and fun. Contemporary will inspire you to find your own style of motion and enable what dance is designed to support...your expression.
Musical Theater
Musical Theatre will focus on learning proper dance technique while exploring the various dance styles used in Broadway shows. Emphasis will also be placed on learning performance skills such as connecting with the audience and telling a story through dance and facial expressions.
Aerial Loft
Aerial silks is a class for our artists to perform aerial acrobatics while hanging from a fabric. Students climb the suspended fabric to wrap, suspend, fall, swing, and spiral their bodies into and out of various positions. Aerial silks may be used to fly through the air, striking poses and figures while flying. Aerial silks consist of one long piece of fabric attached in the middle to the ceiling to create a hammock. In this class you will learn to climb, invert in the air, and hang upside down. As your strength increases you will learn sequences, wraps, and drops that allow you to descend the fabric with style and grace!
Aerial Hoop
Want to learn to fly? Want some excitement in your Dance/Acrobatic or Fitness routine? Just want to have fun? Hoop classes at NEDA focus on building strength and confidence, developing body awareness, and learning to move and think creatively while maintaining an emphasis on proper technique and injury prevention. Our small classes allow students of all levels to learn at their own pace, with movements tailored to each student's skill, fitness, and flexibility level.
